Mission – Transforming lives through God’s Word

Vision – The work of Biblica will be complete when every person in the world is given the opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ through God’s Word and be transformed.

Biblica Kenya was first registered in Kenya on 9th September 1976 as Living Bibles. By 1983/84, the organization had begun its maiden work of Christian literature distribution.

  • In 1992 Living Bibles merged with the International Bible Society
  • In 2007 International Bible Society merged with Send The Light and our name changed to IBS-STL.
  • International Bible Society (EA) changed its name to Biblica Kenya in July, 2009.

Currently, Biblica Kenya distributes a wide variety of Christian literature and Bibles from 2 bookshops in Nairobi – on the ground floor of Reinsurance Plaza and at our head office in Caledonia – and a depot located at the Kisumu Pentecostal Church, Kisumu. An expanding network of over 600 outlets regularly provides our products to the public in both urban and rural areas. The distribution arm has grown to become the main source of income for the ministry’s operations.

Biblica makes the transforming message of God’s word accessible for people in any life circumstance. We conduct ministry through two core strategies:

1. Bible Translation & Publishing

2. Bible Engagement

Bible Translation & Publishing

Biblica is the translation sponsor and ministry publisher of the New International Version® (NIV®), the most widely read and trusted contemporary English translation.

Biblica Kenya translates God’s Word into vernacular languages, producing them in formats that people can engage with. So far, Biblica Kenya has produced NIV-like contemporary translations in Kiswahili, Kikuyu & Luo.

Bible Engagement

Biblica offers programs and resources to churches and ministries to engage people more deeply in scripture for life application and transformation.

Biblica Kenya programs and resources focus on four areas of ministry: Equipping Church Leaders, Scripture Outreach, Children and Youth Ministry, and Community Bible Experience.

Equipping Church Leaders

Biblica Kenya conducts seminars and provides study Bibles and other materials to equip church leaders and pastors to lead their congregations in the truth of God’s Word. This includes training for Children’s pastors and workers and provision of a Sunday School curriculum.

Scripture Outreach

Biblica Kenya provides Bibles and biblical resources to partners, churches, and anyone who needs access to God’s Word at extremely low ministry prices. We also reach people with specific needs with God’s Word in formats that relate to their individual situation e.g. prison inmates.

Children and Youth Ministry

We reach young people with God’s Word at a point when they are most open to the gospel.

  • Reach 4 Life—A Scripture-based, HIV prevention program aimed at upper primary and high school students
  • Children for Christ— A Vacation Bible School program designed to ground children in the Word of God

 Community Bible Experience

A program aimed at enhancing Bible readership, understanding, and engagement, by bringing people together to read, understand, and apply God’s Word.

Translation: Biblica Kenya believes the first necessary step to effective distribution of God’s Word is the accurate translation of Scripture into the current idiom of any given language.

Publishing and Distribution: Biblica Kenya believes we must make the Word available in markets where it can self-perpetuate through sales. This guarantees the presence of the Word within target audiences for generations to come. But we must do more than just publish text. Our publishing ministry packages and formats the Word of God in appealing, culturally appropriate ways.

Outreach: Biblica Kenya believes that every person has a need for God’s Word—and should have access to it. We therefore provides the Word to anyone in need wherever possible, so that people can encounter Jesus Christ through its pages.

Support Functions
Resource Development: Biblica Kenya recognizes that effective ministry requires a consistent flow of resources. As a result, we must continually work to maximize our flow of resources through sales, royalties and donations. This is also accomplished through ministry to our donors and customers.

Human Resources: We believe in the importance and development of its staff. They must be treated as valued team members, called by God to this ministry to help fulfill our mission.

In addition to our core ministry and support functions, we also believe we need a set of guiding principles that reflects our beliefs and the way we conduct our ministry. These guiding principles are stated in our Statement of Faith and our Core Values.

Statement of Faith

We Believe:

In one God, Eternally existent in three persons-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

In the absolute deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary and atoning death for all through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory to judge the living and the dead;

In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling, the Christian is empowered to live a Holy life, to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ;

In the divine inspiration of all 66 books of the old and new testaments as originally given, guaranteeing their infallibility, entire trustworthiness, and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct;

That all people are sinners and cannot save themselves. Salvation is received as a free gift of God’s grace, apart from works, through repentance and personal faith in the redemptive work of Christ and the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit;

In the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the eternal blessedness of the saved, and the eternal punishment of the lost;

In the spiritual unity of believers in Lord Jesus Christ who are thus members of his body, the church, whose work is the worship of God, perfecting the saints, and the evangelization of the world.

Core Values:

  • We honor God and value  His Word, we serve God and place the Bible at the heart of everything we do.
  • We think globally and act locally, we work alongside our area leaders, boards and ministry partners in each region respecting the local culture and needs.
  • We value partnership, We work in collaboration and respect our partners knowing we can achieve more together.
  • We esteem people, we respect, develop and empower people encouraging their skills and
  • We foster a culture of excellence, we strive towards excellence with transparency, accountability and integrity.
